AHA Instructor Classes

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION (AHA)

INSTRUCTOR CLASSES


These classes are to prepare you to become an instructor in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers/Heartsaver, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) courses.

ACLS and PALS instructor candidates must be at least 18 years of age and licensed or certified in a healthcare occupation where such skills are within the provided scope of practice. BLS/Heartsaver instructor candidates must be at least 16 years of age.

The ideal instructor candidate must be motivated to teach, facilitate learning, and ensure students acquire the skills necessary for successful course completion.

An AHA instructor should continuously view student assessment as a way to improve individual knowledge and skills.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of the instructor course, you will be able to teach a BLS/Heartsaver, ACLS, or PALS course using the video and lesson maps that are part of the course instructor materials. You will also be able to use the most current testing materials to conduct skills testing.

PROCESS TO ACHIEVE

INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION


  1. Have current AHA provider status in the discipline for the instructor course you wish to attend.
  2. Successfully complete discipline specific classroom portion of the instructor course.
  3. Successfully complete teaching the first course while being monitored within six months of completing the classroom portion of the instructor course.
