Mercy College of Health Sciences proudly announces that Amanda Zurface, JCL, Vice President for Mission and Campus Culture, has officially taken her oath as the Diocesan Postulator for the Cause of Canonization of the Servant of God Sister Annella Zervas, OSB.

The Opening Mass on October 9 marked the formal beginning of the diocesan phase of the canonical investigation into her life, virtues, and reputation for holiness.

“The opportunity to participate so closely in the petitioning of a cause for canonization has been an immense blessing and profoundly life-giving.” Zurface explained. “It is a privilege to assist the Church in asking the Holy Father to recognize, through the discernment of the Church and the confirmation of God Himself, that this servant of God now shares in the glory of Heaven and may be publicly venerated as a model of holiness and an intercessor for the faithful on earth.”

As Diocesan Postulator, Zurface is appointed to guide and promote the cause in accord with the norms of the Church. Her responsibility is to ensure that the diocesan inquiry into the life, virtues, and reputation for holiness of the Servant of God is conducted with integrity and fidelity to Canon Law. Zurface has been devoted to advancing Sister Annella’s cause since 2020.

Working closely with the Episcopal Delegate and in collaboration with the Promoter of Justice, the Notaries, the Historical Commission, and other appointed officials, she supports and coordinates the various roles involved in the collection of testimonies, examination of writings, and gathering of all documentary evidence. The Postulator with the Episcopal Delegate ensures that this material is properly compiled and authenticated so that it may be presented to the Holy See for judgment on the cause.
