Stacker researched and compiled a list of colleges that contain the best return on investment (ROI) in Iowa. Rankings were determined using a 2019 study conducted by professors at Georgetown University.

The study considered net present value (NPV), balancing today’s costs against future earnings, and ranked the highest 40-year ROI, with ties broken by 10-year ROI.

Mercy College of Health Sciences came in at #5 for the best ROI in Iowa. Mercy College had a 40-year NPV of $980,000, a 10-year NPV of $99,000, and a median debt of $14,000.

Colleges and universities that specialize in STEM studies (science, technology, engineering, and math) tend to have a higher return on investment for their graduates. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 10.2 million STEM jobs in 2020 alone, with that number consistently increasing.

Stacker was founded in 2017 and is a new outlet that transforms data analysis into newsworthy stories.
