(Des Moines, IA) – Mercy College of Health Sciences student Georgia Jorgensen has been named the recipient of NURSE Corps’ full ride scholarship for the 2018-19 academic year. NURSE Corps is a national program developed to provide care to underserved areas and populations. The Corps offers scholarships to students enrolled in nursing degree programs at accredited institutions. As per the requirements, scholarship recipients must be willing to work in a critical shortage facility in need of caregivers after graduating their programs.

Georgia Jorgensen is currently working to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree through Mercy College’s Accelerated BSN program. The NURSE Corps scholarship will cover her 2018-19 school year costs, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, and other living expenses.

“My family and I feel very blessed for me to be a recipient of the Nurse Corps Scholarship. Needless to say, a scholarship of this significance makes it possible for me to receive my training in an excellent program like Mercy College without the concern of any financial burdens after completion.” Said Jorgensen.

“I am excited and proud to be a part of Mercy's Accelerated BSN program. It's a rigorous program that holds us to a high standard. I know that when we are through, we'll be prepared to meet those standards when we begin our careers. I am very grateful for this support and opportunity and look forward to my time of service in the Nurse Corps.” Jorgensen stated.

The Accelerated BSN program launched in the fall of 2018 accepted 48 students through a competitive application process. This new degree path puts students on the fast-track to obtaining their BSN in as little as 12-months. The Accelerated BSN program is designed for students with a baccalaureate degree in a non-nursing major and allows students to complete the required nursing coursework over five terms of intensive study.
