Julie Smith (BSN '18), has joined the Mayflower Community staff as the Director of Assisted Living and Home Services. Julie is a 2018 graduate who earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She received her Bachelor of Science in Health Science and Health Service Management from Drake University, with a minor in business in 2014.

“Julie’s academic credentials coupled with her positive energy will enhance our leadership team.  With oversight of all assisted living as well as Mayflower’s health outreach to people living in their own homes, Julie will provide professional and thoughtful care for seniors,”
stated Kellie McGriff, NHA/BSN, Mayflower’s Associate Director and Administrator.

Julie, who graduated cum laude at Drake and summa cum laude at Mercy College, comes to Mayflower after serving most recently as a registered nurse in the intensive care unit at UPH-Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

As a student nurse, Julie gained experiences in medical surgical, cardiac and telemetry, neurology, labor and delivery, and cardiac catheterization units, or, as Julie terms it, she performed “fine-tuned head-to-toe assessment and medication administration skills.”  In addition to her prior experience in healthcare technology, Julie has provided employee assistance as a “super user” of Epic electronic medical records software.

“The addition of Julie Smith to the Mayflower staff reflects our goal of the optimum in professional skills in the Grinnell senior living world,”
stated Mayflower’s Executive Director, Steve Langerud.

The Mayflower Community is the only healthcare provider in Poweshiek County offering Medicare certified skilled nursing care, certified assisted living, and licensed residential care, all on one campus.  More than 280 people make their homes in the Mayflower Community’s healthcare facilities, independent living apartments, patio homes, and the new Watertower Square apartments.
