MercyOne Partnership

Mercy College of Health Sciences and MercyOne share a long, interwoven history of collaboration and shared mission. Founded just six years apart in the 1890s by the Sisters of Mercy, both organizations have grown from humble beginnings into national leaders in Catholic, nonprofit healthcare education and care delivery.

Mercy College is located within walking distance of MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center, a 622-bed Level II Trauma Center in the heart of Iowa’s largest metropolitan area. As a system, MercyOne operates more than 270 care locations and employs over 22,000 colleagues across Iowa. Press Ganey consistently ranks MercyOne in the nation’s top 5% of health care providers in both patient experience and employee engagement.

Mercy College students have exclusive access to priority clinical placement at all MercyOne facilities, ensuring strong integration of hands-on, real-world learning opportunities. Graduates of nearly every program complete hundreds of intensive clinical contact hours across MercyOne care locations, building confidence, skills, and career‑ready expertise. Additionally, many students balance their studies with part-time, flexible work positions at MercyOne. These roles equip students with meaningful patient care experience, competitive income and benefits, and an employer who ardently supports students’ academic priorities.
