Currently, the Mercy College of Health Sciences (MCHS) Learning Management System (LMS) that hosts our online courses is Desire2Learn (D2L), 

The D2L resource is a secure, interactive website. Virtually every course taught at MCHS includes some online learning component. Course contents include a syllabus, calendar, and student grades, and can also include activities such as online discussions, educational videos, writing assignments, and other activities to enrich your learning experience.

User Name and Password

Students have only one username and password for access to all systems, which includes MyMercy, Office365 email, D2L, and for printing. Changing your password changes it for all systems.

The first time you log in, use the following format:

Username: firstname.lastname
Password: lowercase middle initial (OR lowercase "x" if you have no middle name) + 6 digit birth date

Example: Tony Joseph Swan was born August 3, 1976; thus, his username is tony.swan and his password is j080376.

Computer Configuration Requirements

To avoid technical issues with D2L, we recommended that you perform a system check to ensure your computer contains the supported system and software requirements used in the online learning environment. Please also review the Technology Frequently Asked Questions.

D2L Tour

At https://mchs.desire2learn.com you will find several important items:

1. Log On: Enter your username and password into the boxes and click "Log In" button to enter.

2. MCHS IT Support Contact: Information Technology support request form and phone number.

3. Downtime Notifications: D2L has monthly maintenance times will be noted on this page when scheduled.

4. Password Help: If you forget your password, click "Forgot your password?" and an email will be sent to you.

5. Password Change: Never share your password with anyone! If you think your password has been compromised, click the Change Your Password link to create a new one.

6. D2L Tutorials: Click the "Getting Started in D2L" link to go to self-help tutorials.

Students experiencing technical difficulties should contact their instructors as soon as possible to discuss options for completing coursework and avoid losing points.

Basic Troubleshooting

Try the following first for most technical problems:

  1. Try using a different computer
  2. If no other computer is available, restart the computer and try again
  3. Try using a different browser (Firefox or Chrome are recommended)
  4. Clear the cache and cookies for your browser (e.g.,Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer). 

No login button

  • Perform a system check

  • Upgrade Java and Flash

  • Try using a different browser (Firefox or Chrome are recommended)

Username or password is not working

  • Your username should be in this format: firstname.lastname

  • Passwords are the same for MyMercy, student Office365 email, and D2L.

Missing course content or assignments

Contact your Instructor if you are unable to access course content or activities.

Documents will not upload

Please confirm these solutions are acceptable to your instructor.

  • Save the document in Rich Text Format (.RTF) and try uploading again.
  • In D2L, you can write using the text editor in the ePortfolio tool. (This is good for short documents that do not need to be formatted with APA.)
  • Save the document in a cloud-based file storage/editing system (e.g., Google Docs or Microsoft One Drive), set appropriate file sharing settings, then email the link to your instructor.
  • Email the document to your instructor.
  • Reduce the Size of PowerPoint Files that are too large due to high-resolution images and re-upload.
