OUR BODY OF WORK

ABOUT OUR SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY MAJOR

Our three-semester certificate program includes classroom instruction, lab instruction in operating room techniques, and clinical experiences in hospitals and surgery centers. Your knowledge and confidence will increase as your clinical skills grow under the guidance of a clinical instructor and preceptors in surgical settings.

UNMATCHED CLINICAL EXPERIENCES

Clinical experiences are opportunities to gain hands-on learning in surgical settings. During these experiences, you will work with a variety of experienced professional surgical technologists called preceptors. The clinical instructor and preceptor will work together to acclimate you to the operating room environment. This will allow you to gain knowledge in the field of surgery to become a successful entry-level surgical technologist. Many clinicals take place at MercyOne – Des Moines Medical Center, giving our students easy exposure to a wide range of medical scenarios not seen in many other clinical rotation sites.
