Surgical Technology Admission Requirements

The successful applicant for admission to the certificate or associate of science programs must meet the general college requirements for admission to Mercy College and the criteria listed below:

1. Demonstrate the stated level of achievement in one of the following areas:

   1. Earn a high school or college cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

   2. Earn a GED score of 500 or above.

   3. Earn an ACT composite score of 18 or above. Associate Degree candidates must have earned an ACT score of 19 or higher.
      

2. If the above criteria are not met, students may be admitted if they:

   1. Earned an associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA or 2.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

   2. Completed nine college credit hours specific to the Mercy College ST curriculum, achieved a grade of “C” or above in each course and earned a cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

   3. Associate of Science Degree Only: Completed the Mercy College Surgical Technology certificate program with a cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

3. Have earned a grade of “C” or above in each of the following high school (or college equivalent) courses:

   1. English

   2. Algebra I

   3. Biology

4. Students for whom English is not their native language are required to take the reading section of the COMPASS test and achieve a scaled score of 81 or higher.

5. Interview with the Surgical Technology Selection Committee.
