Steps to Success

Steps to Success is a program designed especially for first generation college students who are starting at Mercy College the Fall 2013 semester. A Success Coordinator will help students reach their educational goals by providing free academic support services. The program is generously funded by Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation.

Academic Support

Success Coordinators will help students transition to Mercy College and assist them to meet their educational goals. Students participating in the Steps to Success Program will complete a College Student Inventory to identify their academic strengths, interests, and motivations. The Success Coordinators will help students create SMART goals related to their educational pursuits and arrange support services while enrolled in the program. Students will be given free individualized tutoring, academic support, and success seminars. Additionally, participants can earn up to $400 in stipends for books and/or graduation fee. Program requirements must be met to receive the incentives.

Academic Support

Success Seminars are available to help students with study and test taking strategies, scholarship searches, resumes and interviews, health and wellness, financial literacy, writing and APA citations, and stress
management. These sessions are free to all students enrolled in the Step to Success program. Sessions  are available in a variety of formats taking into consideration student needs and availability. Refreshments are provided for in-person sessions. Program participants must attend at least six sessions throughout the academic year.

Tutors provide extra assistance to students in specific courses and subject areas. Tutoring services are FREE and available to program participants. Learn more here.
