Short-term Certificate Students

Are you looking for a career change? Have you heard about the demand for workers in health care? Do you need a quick way to increase your income?

Mercy College offers four short-term certificates providing quality educational offerings to meet the needs of health care employers.

Short-term certificate programs are held over the course of 7 to 17 weeks. A variety of day and evening courses are available. Classes are taught by leading professionals in various health care fields.

Application Process

The successful applicant for admission to short-term certificate courses must complete and submit the following prior to 30 days of the course start date to the Admissions Office:

  1. Complete the online Application for College Admission. The paper application may also be downloaded (found to the right) and mailed with the application fee to the Admissions Office. Upon request, the Admissions Office will mail you a paper application. Paper applications must include a $30 non-refundable application fee paid by check or money order. There is no application fee if you apply online.

We are no longer requiring a $30 application fee for applications completed online. Please enter 07mchs in the field called application code under the credit card information section of the online application to bypass entering a credit card number.

  2. Download, complete and mail the program registration packet (found to the right) to the Admissions Office, if applicable.

You may also request an application and registration packet to be mailed to you by calling (515) 643-6715.

Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO)

The Post Secondary Enrollment Act was enacted in 1987 to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wider variety of options to high school students. (Chapter 261C, Iowa Code - Iowa Department of Education)

PSEO provides an opportunity for students who are interested in a career in health care to get a jump start on their college education.

By completing a short-term certificate program, students will be equipped to work in a variety of health care settings while fulfilling prerequisites for future programs of study at Mercy College.

Contact your high school guidance counselor to see whether you are eligible to take courses through this program. If eligible please download, complete and submit the Notice of Student Registration Form (Senior Year Plus Program - Postsecondary Enrollment Options) to the Mercy College Admissions Office.
