New Student Orientation/Registration

New Student Orientation/Registration –Frequently Asked Questions

I came to Mercy College for a tour and Open House, do I need to attend orientation?

Yes!!! Attendance at new student orientation/registration is mandatory. Any information you received at Open House is beneficial, but at orientation we’ll discuss all the things you will need to know to have a successful Mercy College career. You will also register for classes.

What are the benefits of attending orientation?

New student orientation allows you to get acclimated to the college before classes start. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and get answers about everything Mercy College has to offer. There are plenty of opportunities to meet other new Mercy College students, which will enable you to form bonds and friendships before the semester starts. You will meet with your faculty advisor and register for your first semester courses.

How long will the orientation last?

Orientation runs from 8 .a.m. - 3.p.m. Lunch is provided.

What do I need to bring to orientation?

All you need to bring to orientation is your license plate number and any outstanding paperwork Admissions or the Student Health Nurse has requested. We will provide writing materials and plenty of handouts and the student handbook/planner for you to keep notes in. Also, bring any questions you may have that you would like answered about Mercy College.

How do I get my parking permit and ID Badge?

In your orientation packet you will receive a form to complete and submit during the session to get your parking permit.

Your ID picture will be taken at Mercy Medical Center at the Public Safety Office located on Level A of the Medical Center campus. You can pick up your ID Badge two weeks after your orientation date.

What do I need my ID badge and parking permit for?

The parking permit allows you to park in the 701 Crocker Street student parking lot on campus or Employee lots of Mercy Medical Center at designated times. Violators will be ticketed and/or towed. (See Student Handbook for details.)

The ID badge must be worn visibly on campus or in clinical settings at all times. It is needed for borrowing books from the college library, print services, identification on clinical sites, and building and parking access. A processing fee of $15 is charged for replacement badges.

What is my user name and password in order to gain access to Mercy College’s computers and Blackboard?

Usernames are the student’s first initial, last name and last two digits of your social security number.  (For example, John Doe would have the user name jdoe85.) The passwords are set up as Mchs and the last four digits of the student’s social security number. The password is case sensitive, so remember to capitalize the M (example: Msch7785).

When must my health records be complete?

In order to attend classes at Mercy College and begin your professional program, every student must complete and submit the requested health record documents. For a complete listing go to student health verification.

Your records should be submitted prior to orientation or at orientation.
