Physical Therapist Assistant Program Receives Maximum Accreditation and Graduates First Class

(Des Moines) – The Mercy College of Health Sciences Physical Therapist Assistant Program has been granted Initial Accreditation for the maximum of five (5) years by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association (1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA, 22314; phone: 703-706-3245; email: accreditation@apta.org).

On April 30, 2010 the first nine graduates of the Physical Therapist Assistant program were conferred with Associate of Science degrees at Hoyt Sherman Auditorium.

Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA) use a variety of equipment and exercise to help people with conditions limiting their ability to move and perform activities. PTA's work under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist.

Mercy College is the only Catholic college in Central Iowa and is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) For more information about this program visit www.mchs.edu/pta.
