First-time Student Scholarships

Frank Harkin Memorial Scholarship

Funded by the General Scholarship Fund, this scholarship is awarded in memory of Frank Harkin (1922-2000), a long-time friend of Mercy Medical Center, who throughout his life taught the health care workers who served him what it meant to live life to its fullest while overcoming physical disabilities. Candidates for this renewable award will need to demonstrate a personal history of involvement with disabled persons and have a desire to provide further service to this community. Recipients will also be evaluated on the basis of demonstrated financial need and enrollment in fulltime course work. One letter of recommendation required. 

Latinos Unidos Scholarships from Mercy College

Funded by the General Scholarship Fund, these scholarships are available to full and part-time, first year or returning Hispanic students who meet the GPA requirement of their intended professional program of study and have a demonstrated financial need. This award is named in honor of Latinos Unidos, a local Hispanic social service and referral agency serving Central Iowa. Mercy College is supportive of the organization's goals to enhance health care services and related educational opportunities for Hispanics. One letter of recommendation required.

In addition to this scholarship, Hispanic students should also visit the Latinos Unidos website for information on other scholarships that they may be eligible for directly from the organization.


The Pathways Program Alumni Scholarship

Funded by the General Scholarship Fund, these $3,500 scholarships will be awarded to refugee and immigrant students who successfully completed an educational program through a federal grant known as Pathways to Health Care Careers - Iowa. These scholarships will be awarded to full- and part-time (at least one three credit course) students admitted to Mercy College and who maintain satisfactory academic progress. Recipients will also be evaluated on the basis of personal financial need. One letter of recommendation required.

Mercy Auxiliary General Scholarships

Funded solely by the Mercy Auxiliary of Central Iowa, these scholarships are awarded to any student admitted to Mercy College studying full or part-time (six hours minimum) with a demonstrated financial need. One letter of recommendation required.

Independent Order of Odd Fellows Scholarship

Funded by a gift from the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Grand Lodge of Iowa, these $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to refugee and immigrant students who successfully completed an educational program through a federal grant known as Pathways to Health Care Careers - Iowa. These scholarships will be awarded to students admitted to Mercy College and enrolled in at least one three-credit course each semester and who maintain satisfactory academic progress. Funding can be used to cover no more than 75% of the anticipated semester tuition and textbook expenses. Recipients will also be evaluated on the basis of personal financial need. One letter of recommendation required.

 

Iowa Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Scholarship

Funded with a gift from the Iowa Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, this scholarship is available to full- or part-time students who have been admitted to a professional program or are currently enrolled in a professional program, have a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, are a resident of Iowa at the time of application, and have a demonstrated financial need as shown through the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). One letter of recommendation is required.
