Distance Education

Aspects of distance education are a part of every course taught at Mercy College. Blackboard is the on-line course management system used by the College. All courses post their syllabus and calendar on the course site on Blackboard. Students will be oriented to the use of Blackboard during orientation with individual instruction available as necessary.

For example, in the Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, most courses are 50-75% taught online. It is expected that students will be able to communicate with the professor and peers via email and transfer documents between themselves and faculty through attachments. The BSN orientation includes specific information on Blackboard functions.

Faculty should seek direction and collaboration on use of Blackboard through attendance at Blackboard Users Group (BUG) meetings, which occur regularly throughout the year.
