A Department of Homeland Security Disaster
Preparedness Program
Medical Preparedness & Response to Bombing Incidents
The Division of Allied Health at Mercy College of Health
Sciences is hosting a Department of Homeland Security
grant-funded Disaster Preparedness Program entitled Medical Preparedness and Response to Bombing Incidents.
This comprehensive 16-hour course
provided free of charge is designed to increase the preparedness and
response capability within our community. It will address medical preparedness for and response to blast effects through a combination of lectures, small group activities and tabletop participant exercises. Participants completing this course will gain an enhanced understanding and awareness of issues and consideration relating to a bombing incident.
Content areas include identification of targets, explosives characteristics, pre-attack indicators, pre-and post detonation response, bombing injuries, security, and resource management. This course represents a cooperative effort between the Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC) and the National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center (NERRTC), which is operated by the Texas Engineering Extension Service, a member of the Texas A & M University System.
