Advice to Students
Study like someone's life is going to depend on it...because it might

Clinical/Field Experience

I started my Nursing career in South Dakota, working for four years in Pulmonary Oncology while completing an MEd. After earning my degree I entered Nursing Education and, over the last 20 years, have taught Nursing in a number of challenging situations across several states.

While in South Dakota I was Director of the satellite ASN program for Dakota Wesleyan University and developed the ASN program at the Oglala Lakota College on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation.

Moving to California I concurrently practiced as a House Supervisor for a large hospital and as a Visiting Nurse while maintaining a private psychotherapy practice.

I subsequently assumed the position of Unit Manager for a 50 bed Medical-Surgical unit at a major California HMO.

Seeking a change of career path, I accepted the position of Regional Vice-President and Clinical Director for a national Hospice company, where I practiced for 9 years prior to relocating to the Midwest.

Now in Iowa, I have been teaching courses in both the ASN and BSN programs at Mercy College of Health Science for the past 6 years.
