Research Interests and Professional Projects
My PhD research focused on the ecology and evolution of fungi that cause diseases of plants. This work named two new species of pathogenic fungi and traced the source of serious disease outbreaks they had caused, on plane trees in Europe and cacao (chocolate) trees in Brazil and Central America. This research generated five publications and led to a better understanding of how plant diseases spread and how future disease problems can be avoided.
After completing my PhD, I spent four years doing public education about plant health, and I am very interested in communicating about science with diverse audiences. I enjoy learning about the educational process and developing better ways to teach science to a wide variety of students.
