Step 1: General College Admission    Step 2: Admission to a Professional Program

Admission to Mercy College is a two-step process.

Step 1: General College Admission

Applicants are first processed for general College admission before consideration to a professional program. When your file is complete it will be reviewed by the Admissions Office. An application is complete when the following items are received:

• Mercy College Application
  

• $25 application fee (waived if you visit campus and meet with Admissions staff)
  

• Official high school transcript or GED scores

• Official ACT/SAT score report

• Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended

• Military Discharge Form (DD214) if you are an applicant with military service

• Official score of 500 or above on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam or achieve a current scaled reading score of 81 or above on the COMPASS test if the applicant’s native language is not English and they have not graduated from a U.S. high school

Admissions Office personnel will determine if criteria for admission to the College have been met. Admission to the College does not guarantee admission to a professional program. Upon being granted general College admissions, however, students may enroll in liberal arts and science education classes in the Division  of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Prospective students will receive an acceptance status letter from the Admissions Office approximately two weeks after the application process has been completed.

Step 2: Admission to a Professional Program

The second step in the process is admission to a professional program. Once an applicant is admitted to the College with an acceptance status, he or she may be considered for admission to a professional program.

Each degree or certificate program has admission requirements beyond those for general College admission. These are listed under admission requirements as well as in their respective section of the academic site. Once all requirements have been satisfied, the applicant’s file is considered complete and will be given to the appropriate program chair for consideration. It is the applicant’s responsibility to complete the professional program application process by the appropriate program deadline.

The program chairs begin reviewing completed files by the program admission deadlines listed. Professional program admissions are often limited; please complete your file by the deadline to ensure review. Admission into all professional programs is competitive. Selection for admission is based on the most qualified applicants. Students may find it helpful to complete liberal arts and sciences courses at Mercy College prior to program admission.
