Medical Billing & Coding

Mercy College Training Center is pleased to continue the tradition established in 1998, to offer Medical Billing and Coding (MBC) education for new coders and those professionals returning to the field.

Knowledgeable medical billing and coding assistants are needed in virtually all aspects of the health care industry – wherever a physician’s patient orders are coded. This means you can choose employment opportunities in such settings as hospital medical records departments, physician offices, home infusion companies, pharmacies, clinics, nursing homes, insurance companies and more.

Entry-level Billing and Coding Course

This 10-week, entry-level MBC course is intended for individuals interested in a career in an outpatient clinic, specialty clinic or insurance setting utilizing CPT, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS codes. This course does not specifically address coding for acute care hospitals.

As an offering of the Training Center, there are no specific admissions requirements to participate in this program. However, there is significant content reading and a rapid pace during class sessions, which are held on campus in the evenings and include lecture, group discussion, homework and quizzes/exams to test your comprehension. In addition to tuition, this course requires participants to utilize three (3) textbooks which are available for purchase or rental from the Mercy College bookstore vendor.

Following successful completion of the course, students are equipped for the national exam of the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
